A typical evening at the local tavern The Antler and Thistle, people go about their evening rituals, in the corner some questionable characters are gambling, a few figures keep to themselves reading or watching the crowd, a dwarf is staring at the roasting boar waiting for his meal for the evening. As this simple scene continues on into the night it suddenly shifts. The gentle hubbub of the tavern is shattered by the crack of the front door flying off its hinges to land amid the nearest tables. Four hobgoblins rush into the bar, swords outstretched to skewer the nearest bar patrons.
Unfortunately for them that patron is Yuriel | Yuriel]], a Genasi Swordmage, and so a battle begins. As they begin to clash, the patrons run about searching for safety. Quevven, a Human Wizard, reaches for his orb, the Dwarven Ranger, Gor, annoyed at this interruption of his meal grabs his axe and sword, and Daeniroth, a human Warlord, grabs his weapon. As the first hobgoblins attack Yuriel, a goblin rushes past the skirmish and makes his way to the bar, many more follow behind him rushing in all directions.
As the hobgoblins rush in threatening the patrons, the quiet watchers can watch no more, each begin exercising their skills, bolts of force fly everywhere, axes are thrown with alarmingly poor precision and an commanding voice is heard inspiring these unknown allies into battle. As the battle rages on the first goblin skips over the bar grabbing for the hanging gauntlets and plaques commemorating Brindols heroes of the past.
As the battle between Yuriel and the hobgoblins continues, the cloaked figure stretches out his blade and arcane power swirls around it and outward towards three goblins that are engulfed in the inferno and burned to a crisp. With this action the tide quickly turns and the hobgoblins drop like flies.
The goblin thief clutching at his stolen prizes nimbly runs out the bar avoiding many of the attacks aimed at him. Daeniroth quickly follows behind him as the heroes inside quickly dispatch the remaining goblins forces. Outside the goblin’s luck did not hold and he is quickly cut down and the stolen items retrieved. As Daeniroth surveys the body he notices a strange symbol the likes of which he has not seen before. . . a half-moon etched into the blade of the goblin. He returns quickly to see how the others have fared.
As the heroes look over the mess that is now the Antler and Thistle they begin helping the injured and trying to put the place back in some kind of order. Quevven checks the remains of the three gamblers who cut each other down when the attack began, no one questions him as he slides the gold and jewels off their table and into his pouch. The cleanup effort continues until a villager runs inside yelling “They’re destroying our town!” The new allies rush outside to see a disturbing sight coming up the road, an ogre pulling a wagon carrying two hobgoblins behind him. They are armed for destruction, the ogre carrying a club and each hobgoblin has lit arrows aimed directly at the buildings in front of them.
As the heroes look on, the ogre grabs a cask from the wagon and hurls it at a building fortunately for the citizens of Brindol his aim is not true and he only manages to hit the corner, the contents ooze out on the roof and the hobgoblins quickly launch arrows at the building it ignites instantly. The heroes look at each other and the Daeniroth inspires them to act quickly. “Here we go again…”
